Content

Facial image processing and analysis is the task of automatically analyzing face images in order to acquire information about the depicted persons. This includes a person’s identity, emotional and cognitive state, facial gestures, age and gender. The application domains for this are security, smart environments, human-computer interfaces, and content-based image and video analysis.

This seminar aims at introducing theoretical and practical aspects on the area of automatic face analysis to the students.

Possible topics for seminar talks are:

  • Face detection
  • Facial feature localization
  • Face modeling
  • Face recognition and verification
  • Facial expression analysis
  • Emotion classification
  • Facial gesture recognition
  • Age estimation
  • Gender classification

Recommendations

Basic knowledge of pattern recognition as presented in the lecture Cognitive Systems are expected

Goals

  • The seminar offers students the opportunity to get familiar with a specific topic in the area of facial analysis
  • The student shall learn to independently and effictively investigate and structure scientific literature
  • The student shall learn to present his findings in a talk
  • The student shall learn to do a scientific presentation and a discussion in English
  • The student shall learn to write a scientific reports in English

Comments

  • The seminar will be held in English and will be graded for Master students
  • As criteria for the grade for Master students the presentation, report and collaboration within the seminar will be taken into account
  • The report is due on the day the presentation will be held
  • For the seminar students, attending each of the seminar meetings is mandatory
